Having experimented with panning images of hubby and car back in 2010, I then decided to try it out for real out in the big wide world. The South Bank in London has a good skateboard park so off we went to see what we could find…
It is a great place, but this was still going to be challenging. All the action was underground, with bright sunlight flooding in from the side. A great bunch of lads were practising their sport, and quite happy for me to take pictures. In fact I think they rather enjoyed showing off!
My camera gear wasn’t so good in those days, as I had only just started on my photographic journey. Ian is the stronger photographer of the two of us and I only took it up as I got so bored hanging around whilst he ‘played with his camera’. Of course now we are very competitive and end up having to buy two of each piece of equipment, so we don’t have to fight over it on a shoot. He tried fobbing me off with his hand-me-downs but I soon saw through that one! Photography can be very expensive…
Anyway back to the subject in hand. I spent a frustrating hour or so trying to get this right and ended up with this one good image – which incidentally did earn me a top mark in one of our photographic society competitions. Made it all worthwhile!
Taken on a Canon 450D, 1/30 sec at f/4.5, ISO 800
